Hello everyone. I am writing with a favor to ask. I have been invited to show some Jelly and Toast comics as part of a Slide Rule presentation at next month's Stumptown Comics Fest. Slide Rule is an event that shares comics by turning them into Power Point Presentations which are projected in front of an audience accompanied by live narration and/or sound effects. I have been a part of it before and I had a great time! Since then I have created a lot of new comics and I'm wondering if any one out there has any favorites that make them laugh, cry, or connect in someway to the characters. Is there one comic in particular that sums up the relationship between Jelly and Toast? One that makes a good introduction? It would please me greatly if you would leave a comment and tell me the title of a J & T comic that you like (or a few if there are a few). You can also e mail me at tinytdog (at) yahoo (dot) com. This would help me choose a few to turn into live presentations for the Slide Rule. I'll do my best to get some video and post it up here. The event is at the end of April. I'll post some more info on it as it approaches.

Hey Y'all,

Firstly, I haven't been posting although I have been making more comics. The computer that was in a relationship with my scanner was having issues and they decided to split up so my computer could work out its problems related to its motherboard. I see a hot young mac in my scanner's future. I just hope it can keep up with whatever new obsolescent system the new computer is running.

In the meantime please join me this Thursday, February 11th at Vermillion on Capitol Hill When there will be an opening for "BFF, Excerpts from Friend of the Nib". The Friends of the Nib is a cartoon/illustration group that I meet up with occasionally to draw. They are releasing a set of playing cards shortly, but not quite yet. This show will have art from the playing cards as well as some other stuff. Lots of great art from Jim Woodring, Bob Rini, Tom Dougherty, Max Clotfelter, Ellen Forney and more. And me.

There will be a few J & T comics up as well as the art I did for the card to be included in the playing card set.

Hey everybody! I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I have a lot to be thankful for this year, as usual! I have so many tremendous friends who support me in my various pursuits including the 180 fans of Jelly and Toast!

After working in the coffee industry for a bit, I have put down the bar towel in exchange for the keys to my truck. I am starting a motorcycle towing business out here in Seattle. So if your bike breaks down, I come and pick it up. As far as I could tell, there wasn't a good option in Seattle besides a big tow truck that is more suited to cars. I'm hoping that I'll become the "friend with a truck" for those who do not have a friend with a truck.

Anyway, I've been busy setting that up, but now, I am just pretending to be busy setting that up, when it's pretty much ready to go. I just don't know what else to do while I'm waiting for the phone to ring. So, I've got some work to do working on what to work on working on, but I'm gonna make Jelly and Toast a definite part of what I do. Now I just have to prove it to my fans. Right!

Whew! Pretty sporadic these days, eh folks? Sorry about that. The winter's coming on here in Seattle which will hopefully lead to more postings. This is for a deck of cards that's being produced by the Friends of the Nib which is a group of artists , mostly cartoonists and illustrators specifically, that I get together with every so often. I'm not sure when the cards are being produced, but I actually got the art in by the deadline, which I am patting myself on the back for. If you see me, you can give me a pat on the back too! I just got back from SF. I can't believe how much hotter it is here in Seattle! I love San Francisco and When I return to visit I always consider moving back. This cartoon was actually drawn when I visited after first moving to Seattle. Times are a lot better now, but I still miss San Francisco and I love to visit the city and the wonderful friends I made while living and visiting there.

The way I see it, San Francisco is like a European country. Everyone's cooler, everything's expensive and sometimes I fool myself into thinking that I belong there. I don't feel comfortable being myself in such a cool city! Everyone looks so cool all the time! I will always love San Francisco and the people there whom I have come to know. I'm at home in Seattle, where I can wear a fleece jacket without feeling like a tourist. I feel like I have found my place here among several great friends. It's too bad none of my San Francisco friends ever visit! Thanks for looking everybody!

Swear Words!

We did it! I haven't checked this morning, but when I looked on Saturday, it was 150 to 149 Jelly and Toast! Thanks for everyone who helped make it happen and thanks for coming back to have a look at the strip. I am planning celebration party, so keep an eye out for those details.

Today I am posting the first Jelly and Toast comic I ever made! Their first performance was in a character animation assignment when I was in art school and I'm pretty sure there are no records remaining of that conversation. This is from a sketch book I was filling up when I lived in San Francisco. Probably around 2002/3. The conversation is moderated by a tooth character who (obviously) didn't last. Maybe mr tooth will come back someday! Thanks again and again for all of your support and encouragement. It has helped me to continue the comic as much as Jelly wanted to shut it down! Believe in your ideas and support your friends!

What a week! As you can see, the strip is changing as I go through some transformations myself. I've been wondering how it is to be just discovering the strip. Is knowledge of the J & T relationship key to understanding the current comics? Hmmm... I am wondering. So when I showed a friend my J & T comic, they said "Oh, this is like 'Mr Toast' which I later looked up on the internet fearing another episode of this-has-already-been-done. This Mr Toast guy has tons of merch and a very strong presence on his site. I'm thinking I need a website instead of this blogger thing, but it's working fine for now.

It's true! Me and Allison (my girlfriend) are going to visit her cousin Nick in Poland! So a lot of people have been confused about who the toast is talking to. They are only further confused when I tell them it is a jelly donut. I hope this diagram will clear up my crude representation of such an important figure. Hello people. It is a sunny day here in Seattle. Personal musings on memories of impending school vacations and the renaissance that is sunny days of spring are upcoming. I visited the Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend and enjoyed talking with other artists and picking up some cool new stuff. Someday I will get these guys off the screen and onto the page! I also really enjoy visiting Portland. I dream of moving there and immersing myself into the thriving communities of artists doing cool stuff, but the reality is different from the dream and I need to stick with the reality these days. I'm excited to stay in touch with Portland and my Portland pals and maybe I will find the nooks and crannies here in Seattle that will help me feel at home and inspire me to keep on creating new things.
